POSITION OVERVIEW

HomeRise seeks a dynamic, visionary, and highly competent Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial strategy and fiscal health of this complex nonprofit environment. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO is a key member of HomeRise’s Executive Team, providing leadership and guidance to the organization on strategic financial planning, risk management, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and resource allocation issues. The CFO will oversee all Financial and Accounting activities of HomeRise and its affiliates, Information Technology, and Asset Management.

As a thought partner and strategic ally to the new CEO, the candidate will have the opportunity to be an agent of change in driving significant improvements while lending structure and stability to a fast-paced environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management

  • Oversee all financial and accounting activity of HomeRise and its affiliates and Information Technology, including the development and implementation of financial policies, procedures, and controls. 
  • Manage HomeRise’s accounting staff and consultants in completing all accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Create accompanying performance analysis and commentary on monthly financial statements, advise and support Directors on financial concerns related to their departments or programs.
  • Lead annual agency budget development and revisions and monitor budget compliance, oversee the development of general fund, building operations and development budgets.
  • Analyze financial results and prepare monthly reports for the Chief Executive Officer and quarterly reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with all HomeRise financial performance requirements.
  • Oversee the financial performance of housing managed by HomeRise.

Budgeting, Planning, and Policy Development

  • Assume financial leadership roles in developing corporate strategy and business plans, and work closely with Executive Team members on departmental levels.
  • Create financial forecasts, models, or analyses as needed or required to support both short-term decision-making and longer-term strategic planning.
  • Play financial leadership roles in corporate policy development.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors, Finance, and Audit Committees.

 

Risk Management, Treasury, and Cash Flow

  • Oversee cash & investments to balance risk, return, and liquidity appropriately.
  • Manage all internal and external audits.
  • Responsible for managing general HomeRise service contracts.
  • With other senior managers, represent the company to financial partners including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, public officials, and others.

 

Asset Management

  • Oversee HomeRise’s Asset Management Department consultants and employees.
  • Responsible for developing, updating and implementing HomeRise’s strategic asset management plan.
  • Provide leadership for all financial aspects of HomeRise’s real estate portfolio of 17 affordable housing sites.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of operating reserve funding, maintenance needs and regulatory compliance.

 

Technology Management

  • Ensure high-level functioning of HomeRise’s YARDI software systems, including: expanding eLearning and overall system capabilities as needed.
  • Provide oversight of and upgrades to the financial software component of YARDI.
  • Set up and administration of YARDI software systems to ensure adequate infrastructure.
  • Oversee Information Technology function and sub-contracted service

 

Miscellaneous

  • Participate in the Executive Team, Leadership Team and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Serve as the staff liaison for the Finance and Audit committees of the Board of Directors.
  • Provide overall leadership in the ongoing management and future development of HomeRise.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing accounting departments and consolidating multiple locations, complex cash flow management, process improvement, and managing independent audits, grant accounting and compliance. 
  • Strongly preferred experience:
    • Non-profit accounting 
    • Section 8, Low Income Tax Credit and Affordable Housing 
    • Property management & YARDI software 
    • Grant and Compliance Management
  • Ability to combine strategic, policy, and planning perspectives with attention to details, internal controls and other concerns.
  • Excellent computer skills include general ledger software, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and a working knowledge of existing and emerging information technology.
  • Experience in managing the IT infrastructure organization-wide.
  • High level of organization and proven ability to complete complex tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective delegation skills.
  • Effective mentoring and training of all levels in the accounting department.
  • Ability to work within a very diverse workplace and environment.
  • Able to demystify the organization’s finances.

  • Work Schedule: Generally, Monday – Friday 9 AM – 5 PM
