Family Bridges, Inc. is a multi-service health and human services non-profit organization that has been serving the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in the East Bay for over 50 years. The organization serves approximately 10,000 clients annually, principally non-English monolingual and LEP-speaking moderate-to-low-income East Bay residents. Our programs include Community-Based Adult Services Centers, Senior Centers, a Friendly Visitors program, a Social Services program, a Child Care Center, an emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness, and a public safety mediator program.  

Family Bridges empowers the most vulnerable—the young, the elderly, the homeless, immigrants, and formerly incarcerated individuals—to lead self-sufficient, independent lives. Our services are open to people of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life. Our historical core competency has been serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI). Most Family Bridges staff members and volunteers have multilingual language capacity including; Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Hmong, and Laotian.  

Family Bridges is a well-known and respected organization with 160 staff and an $11 million annual budget. The current CEO is retiring after almost 30 years of expanding and deepening the organization’s services and impact.

Family Bridges is looking for a dynamic and seasoned leader who can help usher the organization through its next phase of evolution, continuing the momentum of growth and innovation. Reporting to a diverse and seasoned board of directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will oversee the organization’s strategic direction, development, and growth. Strong business and financial acumen, fundraising experience and aptitude for innovation will be essential in partnering with the board to develop and drive strategies that develop growth, serve community needs, and diversify the organization’s revenue streams.  

The CEO will manage an experienced and tenured senior leadership team. We are seeking a CEO with strategic thinking skills, long-term perspective, integrity and a strong sense of accountability. This person needs the practical ability to get things done, together with the wisdom and good judgment to be a fair and thoughtful staff manager and leader. Flexibility is key, someone who has been a change agent in the past and has the courage to shift directions and experiment with new initiatives while getting buy-in from the staff and board. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed as this person will be the face and voice of the organization with external stakeholders. Our ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with the communities we serve, bring cultural sensitivity, and focus on what Family Bridges does best. 

Overview

The role of CEO at Family Bridges, Inc. is to drive the organization’s mission and create lasting community impact. This role requires a dynamic individual with a proven track record in visionary leadership, resource development, and strategic management. The CEO will lead the organization by fostering relationships, mobilizing resources, and building a high-performing team dedicated to improving community outcomes. 

 

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following; 

Visionary Leadership

  • Establish and articulate a clear vision for community impact, through collaboration with high-performing leaders, staff, and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement organizational strategies to expand programs and achieve measurable community outcomes.
  • Steward Family Bridges’ brand and reputation, ensuring it continues to grow and positively impact the community.

Program Evaluation and Oversight 

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that align with the organization’s mission.
  • Ensure that programs achieve desired outcomes and are responsive to the community’s needs.

Resource Development & Financial Stewardship

  • Generate resources and financial support, including major donors, corporate sponsors, private and corporate foundations, and government grants.
  • Drive revenue-building initiatives and increase philanthropic support to sustain and expand the organization’s programs.

Strategic Mobilization

  • Serve as the Chief Mobilizer, leveraging relationships across the private, public, and corporate sectors to improve community conditions.
  • Advocate for Family Bridges and those we serve through policy negotiations and discussions for health-related programs and at the local and state levels. 

Financial Oversight 

  • Ensure strong financial management and accountability across the organization.
  • Oversee the organization’s budget development and management, ensuring financial health.  
  • Asset management and oversight to ensure growth and sustainable earnings.  

Organizational Stewardship

  • Oversee strategic and operational management, ensuring the effective functioning of the organization’s multiple programs and facilities.
  • Focus on staff retention and development, creating a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Serve as a bridge between the operations staff and the board, fostering strong communication and alignment.

Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong community presence and relationships, enhancing Family Bridges’ relevance and impact.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including city and state government, to advance the organization’s goals.

 

Qualifications
Experience & Leadership

  • Minimum of 8 years of senior strategic leadership role 
  • Proven management experience in a similar size organization with demonstrated success in leading a mission-driven organization with multiple programs and facilities.

Financial & Fundraising Expertise

  • Strong financial acumen with significant experience in fundraising, including; major donors, annual campaigns, events, and institutional giving. 

Sector Experience

  • Extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on engaging volunteers and diverse boards.
  • Proven leadership within the Asian American – Pacific Islander community, particularly in serving monolingual/Asian immigrants, seniors, and those with complex needs.
  • Preferred experience in community and/or public health, with knowledge of Medicaid/MediCal policies and managed care advocacy.
  • Unhoused and/or early childhood education expertise is a plus.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expertise in developing partnerships, building teams, and managing conflict. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to listen and advocate effectively.
  • Public speaking skills. 
  • Strong experience working with involved and engaged Boards. 
  • High emotional intelligence, intellectual curiosity, and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.

 

EDUCATION

Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree in business, public administration, or nonprofit management preferred.  *Eight years of senior leadership experience may substitute for an advanced degree.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Family Bridges offers competitive compensation and a generous benefits package. The FTE salary range is $180-200K, depending on experience.
